What is Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL?

Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) allows customers to set up, operate, and scale their relational database in the cloud. With Amazon RDS, administrative tasks like hardware provisioning, database setup, patching, and backups are automated, allowing you to focus on your applications. Amazon RDS provides cost-efficient and resizable capacity without having to change the initial database engine. PostgreSQL is an open source relational database, and one of the six familiar database engines that Amazon RDS users can choose from (the others being Amazon Aurora, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server). The applications, code, and tools you use with your existing databases can be integrated with Amazon RDS.
